Printers 404 - How to Never Pay For Toner or Ink Again
This lesson will go over an efficient way to alleviate many of the headaches in supplying and servicing of your office printers. If you read any of the previous lessons about print coverage, or you have ever had to buy supplies for your printer(s), you know how expensive it can be to keep it in operation. Thankfully some vendors have built programs to help the consumer control costs and essentially never have to buy ink or toner again. There’s really no catch, the end user pays only for the prints made on the equipment. In return, the vendor supplies all the ink and service for the product. The contracts usually differ from product to product in terms of pricing, but all isolate the cost of color versus black and white. For example, color might cost 10 cents per page and black & white may be 2 cents per page printed.
A Closer Look
The customer will sign a contract for a fixed monthly amount for a term of usually 1 to 3 years and select the product that will meet their needs. The contract may include a certain number of prints every month or it may be a “pay as you go” plan. Every day, the vendor connects online to get secure meter reads. This allows the vendor to monitor ink and toner levels as well as dispatch service technicians as needed if problems occur. If there are any issues, Authorized Service Providers are sent on-site. Bills are sent out monthly and itemize the usage for color and black and white. In most instances, the end user can see a significant savings because of the low cost of acquisition and continuing operation.
This is a fantastic program for the customer and allows them focus on more important day to day operations rather than the management of their office equipment. More importantly the program releases the burden on the customer with fluctuating operational costs, as well as providing on-site service. Make sure you ask your vendor of choice if a program is available for the printer you are evaluating—many vendors are in the early stages of these programs
